Which Way Does A Lowrance Transducer Face?

I’ve checked out Lowrance’s total scan transducer mounting instructions and they show the transducer facing “backwards”, that is with mounting plate portion attached to the rear of the boat and tip of the transducer pointed rearwards in the direction of the engine.

Which direction should my transducer point?

So the short answer is that no, it doesn’t matter which way you face the “front” of your transducer.. the read out is going to look just the same to you. You do, however, want the BOTTOM of your transducer to face as straight down as you can, within reason.

Which way does a transducer read?

The general rule of thumb is to mount the transducer to the starboard side, which is the down stroke of most single outboard boat propellers (right hand lower unit). This side produces the least amount of turbulence and is most efficient in delivering the best performance.

Can a transducer be mounted backwards?

The transducers are calibrated and made to mount on the transom with a left and right but when mounting them on the bow of the boat left and right are reversed. If you mount the transducer as shown in Brian’s photo above, it should be oriented correctly.

Can I mount 2 transducers side by side?

You can mount SI/DI and high speed transducers side by side on the same side of the boat without any problems. When they both transducers use the same frequency is when you may experience interference.

Can you mount a transducer on the port side?

If your propeller moves counter-clockwise as the boat moves forward (as you’re facing the stern of the boat from behind), mount the transducer on the port side, and use the bottom right corner of the template.

Should I mount my transducer on my trolling motor?

Often, it is desirable to have the transducer mounted on the trolling motor, but this can be a difficult task.It is important that the transducer and the routing of the cable does not interfere with the trolling motors operation. You must route the cable so that it does not get pulled, cut or crushed.

How does a fish finder transducer work?

A sonar device sends pulses of sound waves down through the water. When these pulses hit objects like fish, vegetation or the bottom, they are reflected back to the surface. The sonar device measures how long it takes for the sound wave to travel down, hit an object and then bounce back up.

How do I switch from forward view to down view in LiveScope?

Using Auto Orientation with Panoptix LiveScope Perspective Mode

  1. From the LiveScope screen, select Menu.
  2. Select Sonar Setup.
  3. Select Installation.
  4. Select Orientation.
  5. Select Auto.

How far does the LiveScope transducer need to be in the water?

When you’re in water less than 15 feet deep, you’ll want to set TVG to off as it will filter too much out on the top part of the water column and you could miss some fish up there. Deeper than that and you can start with low. To set it. Go to your Livescope Screen and choose Menu > Sonar Setup > TVG and choose OFF.

Do transducers interfere with each other?

If both transducers are using the same frequency, they will interfere with each other once you reach a water depth that allows the two beams to cross. In shallow water, they may work together if the transducers are far enough apart.

Does transducer need to be in water?

Note: the transducer must be submerged in water for reliable transducer detection.Ensure the boat is in water greater than 2′ but less than the depth capability of the unit and the transducer is fully submerged. Remember the sonar signal cannot pass through air.

Why is port and starboard called that?

When looking forward, toward the bow of a ship, port and starboard refer to the left and right sides, respectively.Sailors began calling the right side the steering side, which soon became “starboard” by combining two Old English words: stéor (meaning “steer”) and bord (meaning “the side of a boat”).

Do ships always dock on port side?

What side do ships dock on? Ships can dock on either port or starboard side, depending on the layout of the port itself, the direction you are sailing in, and individual government regulations about how cruise ships can be arranged on a pier.

Can you run 2 fish finders off 1 transducer?

While it is not recommended that more than one transducer be run simultaneously, there can be multiple transducers installed on a boat. If two transducers are transmitting at or close to the same frequency and the signals cross, interference may appear on the display of your Garmin Marine Chartplotter.

Does side imaging work sitting still?

You can use the side imaging sitting still and see everything you need to see and then some. As far as mounting the side imaging unit to your trolling motor, you can do that also. It gives you a great opportunity to move the ducer the way you want it to look. You do not just need it shooting out to the left or right.

Does side imaging work when not moving?

Yes. Side Imaging Sonar works much like a MRI. If the boat is sitting still the beams will continue to take thin slices of the same spot and continue to show the slice of this spot continuously.

Is down imaging worth it?

Down imaging is particularly advantageous if you’re looking to fish in deeper waters. That’s because you’re more concerned about detecting fish on the vertical plane rather than the horizontal one.
