Eneloop (Japanese: エネループ, Hepburn: Enerūpu) (stylized as eneloop) is a brand of 1.2-volt low self-discharge nickel–metal hydride (NiMH) rechargeable batteries and accessories developed by Sanyo and introduced in 2005. The brand is presently owned by Panasonic after their takeover of Sanyo.
Are eneloop batteries NiMH or NiCd?
Eneloop batteries are rechargeable NiMH batteries. They are famous for their extremely Low Self Discharge characteristics. This means that they can keep a charge longer than any other NiMH or NiCD rechargeable battery in the world.
What is an eneloop battery?
eneloop is a rechargeable battery offering a new lifestyle choice to customers. Developed with the concept of sustainability and care for the Earth, eneloop embodies the principles of ‘Recharge’ and ‘Reuse’ for realizing a Clean Energy Society.
Can eneloop be charged in any charger?
Eneloop batteries can generally be charged with any kind of NiMH battery charger. Duracell, Energizer and no-name. But to keep things simple, you better stay away from these 2 kinds of chargers: Ultra fast chargers and Dumb chargers.
Are eneloop batteries Lithium?
eneloop batteries are Nickel Metal Hydride cells and considered “dry batteries”, not lithium technology.
Can I replace NiMH with lithium ion?
Yes you can replace a NiMH battery with a lithium battery, however, practically it is not a good idea as each battery is designed for different applications. A NiMH battery is more suited for applications requiring high current draw (like power tools) compared to Lithium batteries.
Can I charge NiMH battery with NiCd charger?
Can I charge Ni-MH batteries with a charger that is specifically designed for Ni-Cd batteries? Never charge Ni-MH batteries with a Ni-Cd charger. The charging of batteries with an unsuitable charger may cause leakage or degeneration of battery service life.
Why are eneloop batteries so good?
Better designed than other rechargeables, Eneloop batteries have become a best-selling battery. Eneloops can be recharged up to 2100 times, and they will retain their charged capacity even after years of storage. After 6 months, they retain 90% of their charge.
Are eneloop batteries worth it?
So are they worth it? Eneloop batteries are worth every penny if you have a lot of electronic devices and gadgets at home which depend on AA-type or AAA-type batteries. Their longevity and high charging cycles make them convenient as well as cheaper than alkaline batteries in the long run.
What is the difference between eneloop and Eneloop Pro?
The short answer: the Eneloop Pro battery has a higher capacity than the regular Eneloop with 2500mAh vs. 1900mAh. The Pro can be charged up to 500 times while the regular Eneloop up to 2100 times. The PRO batteries can provide more current than the regular Eneloops.
Can you leave NiMH batteries on charger?
Discontinue using a charger that “cooks” batteries. Nickel- and lithium-based batteries require different charge algorithms. A NiMH charger can also charge NiCd; a NiCd charger would overcharge NiMH. Do not leave a nickel-based battery in the charger for more than a few days.
Can you overcharge eneloop?
Your charger won’t overcharge the batteries, and there is little harm done in “topping them off” before an event.
Can you mix eneloop batteries?
Don’t mix old and new batteries.
Mixing batteries with different charge levels can dramatically decrease battery life. As the product is used the charge in each battery drops, and the battery with the lowest charge will die first. At this point the dead battery becomes another electrical load within the product.
Are NiMH batteries lithium?
Size: Lithium cells are lighter and smaller than Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) cells, however lithium cells only have an average of 1500mAh compared to the 2200 mAH average of NiMH cells.
Key Design Features.
Ni-MH | Li-ion | |
---|---|---|
Cell Voltage (V) | 1.2 | 3.6 |
Specific Energy (Wh/kg) | 1 – 80 | 3 – 100 |
Specific Power (W/kg) | <200 | 100 – 1000 |
What is a NiMH battery charger?
A nickel metal hydride battery (NiMH or Ni–MH) is a type of rechargeable battery. The chemical reaction at the positive electrode is similar to that of the nickel–cadmium cell (NiCd), with both using nickel oxide hydroxide (NiOOH).
Why are there no lithium ion AA batteries?
Lithium-ion batteries are not available in the same form-factor as alkaline batteries, because using them would cause damage to many of the devices designed for alkaline cells. The nominal voltage of a lithium-Ion cell is 3.7V, while alkaline cells have a nominal voltage of 1.5V.
Can I charge a lithium battery with a NiMH charger?
You can’t. NiMH cells are about 1.2v nominal, best trickle charged. Lithium Ion require a complex charging strategy, winding up at about 4.2v fully charged. So, a NiMH charger has neither the voltage or strategy to charge Li Ion.
Can I use LiPo batteries instead of NiMH?
Most people will eventually upgrade to LiPo after getting used to running their RC car or buggy on a NiMH battery. The main attractions to LiPo batteries are more speed, more “punch” off the line and more consistent power during the duration of the run compared to NiMH batteries.
Can you replace NiMH batteries with alkaline batteries?
NiCd and NiMH rechargeable batteries are available in the same sizes as alkaline batteries (AA, AAA, C, etc) and can be used to power the same things as alkaline types.
Can you charge lifepo4 battery with a normal charger?
You can use a lead-acid charger to charge lithium batteries as long as you can set the maximum voltage of the charger and as long as the charger does not have an automatic equalisation mode enabled.
Do you need a special charger for NiMH batteries?
The charge rate and charge termination for our current line of chargers is designed for higher capacity NiMH batteries. NiMH batteries made by other manufacturers can be charged in an Energizer® charger however we recommend the use of Energizer® NiMH batteries.
