For all my boards using Costar style stabs I put a bit of silicon grease on the part of the white inserts in the cap that the wire goes through and at the points the wire connects to the black clip on the plate which seems to work pretty well in keeping them quiet and smooth.
How do you fix a costar stabilizer rattle?
So, to effectively eliminate the rattling, the goal should be minimizing the gaps and make the wire fit in better. Then carefully stick the Band-Aid piece to the stabs insert as shown above. After that, you may want to apply some lube here. I use Permatex dielectric grease here.
How do I make my stabilizer quieter?

- Clipping stabiliser legs. Clipping the stabiliser legs can help reduce the sound of the stabiliser hitting the PCB.
- Applying silicone grease.
- Add heat shrink to the stabiliser wire (optional)
- Silencing the keycap itself (optional)
- Video.

Can I lube stabilizers with krytox?
Krytox XTH-BDZ (Grease)
This is what makes the XTH-BDZ special, it excels at lubing stabs, but is unsuited to lube switches, springs, and other components. We recommend applying Krytox XTH-BDZ on: Stabilizers.
How do I make my switch quieter?
Try a desk mat as an easy way to make your keyboard quieter. Mechanical keyboards can also be dampened by inserting foam into the base or lubricating the switches. If you have clicky switches, the only way to make them quiet is to replace them with linear switches.
Do you have to Relube stabilizers?
Lubing your Stabilizers: Should You Do it? Short answer: yes! Lubing your stabilizers is much much easier than lubing your switches and you can feel the difference right away. You’ll notice how much better they sound and feel.
Can you lube stabilizers with Vaseline?
Re: Recommended Lube for Cherry Stabilizers
Vaseline is petroleum jelly, which is based on petroleum (oil). It will eat your switches. Lithium should be safe. Silicone is safe.
Can you open a switch without desoldering?
It is worth noting that if your keyboard is hot-swappable, you can fully remove the switches without desoldering. You can simply pull the switches out with a switch puller, which makes the whole process super streamlined. You can check out our guide on how to remove hot-swap switches here.
Why do my stabilizers feel mushy?
If your GMMK PRO’s stabilizers feel unusually “mushy” or sluggish to return after being pressed, there may have been too much lube applied to the outside of the stabilizers. This is a QC defect from manufacturing we’ve identified on a small number of GMMK PRO boards.
Do durock stabs need to be clipped?
Durock PCB Mount Screw-in Stabilizers are a must-have for any custom keyboard. Utilizing a smokey housing and stem color, applying lube has never been easier! Additionally, these stems do not require any clipping for fast & easy set up.
Can you lube stabs with G lube?

What switches are quiet but clicky?
The only mainstream mechanical switch that comes close to being “like a Cherry MX Blue but silent” is the Cherry MX Brown. However, the tactility is much reduced in it. That would do away with the click noise, but not the “clack” on bottoming out and the noise when the key comes back up.
Can you use wd40 to lube switches?
WD-40 is an excellent penetrant but should not be applied as a lubricant to mechanical keyboard switches. WD-40 is low in viscosity and over weeks will dry out inside the switch housing.
