Although the Nikon D850 will come with the new EN-EL15a batteries, you can continue to use your older EN-EL15 batteries from your D800 / D800E / D810 and other cameras with the D850, which is great news, since you do not have to spend money buying all new batteries again.

Which batteries work in Nikon D850?
You can use either the EN-EL18, EN-EL18a, or EN-EL18b inside the MB-D18 vertical grip with the BL-5 cover. The a and b versions of the battery have higher capacity than the original EN-EL18 and therefore can last longer, but all three will work with the D850 such that it can shoot at 9 fps.
