Can You Paint Strip Carbon Fiber?

Carbon fiber is very different from regular car parts when it is painted. The fact that carbon fibre is woven together makes it extremely fast at absorbing paint.

How do you prepare carbon fiber for painting?

For pre-painted parts:

  1. It’s best to mechanically remove the existing finish then treat as new un-painted gelcoated carbon fiber.
  2. Finish sand to 320 or 400 grit.
  3. Re-clean with SX103 or SWX350.
  4. Seal with an epoxy primer.
  5. Apply basecoat color and clear.

What kind of paint do you use on carbon fiber?

How do you remove epoxy from carbon fiber?

Remove uncured or non-curing epoxy as you would spilled resin. Scrape as much material as you can from the surface using a stiff metal or plastic scraper. Warm the epoxy to lower its viscosity. Clean the residue with lacquer thinner, acetone, or alcohol.

Just gently wet sand (400-800grit) it down till the paint is gone then layer on your paint base. Go over that with four/five layers of a good UV clear sanding between (layer 1K/1.5K/2Kgrit).
