Can SimpliSafe door sensors be used outdoors?
On their blog, SimpliSafe offers a DIY solution to simply wrap [a sensor] in saran wrap or a plastic bag, and it will still work just fine [outdoors]. Though effective, I was looking to find a more elegant and long term solution to using my sensors outdoors and ensure they are genuinely weatherproof.
Can SimpliSafe sensors get wet?
TIP: Although entry sensors are electronics and can’t get wet, wrap one in saran wrap or a plastic bag and it will still work just fine.
How far do SimpliSafe entry sensors work?

SimpliSafe’s Base Station can connect to the keypad and sensors at a range of up to 1,000 feet unobstructed. This means that the base station has the potential to reach throughout even the largest houses up to 20,000 square feet.
How far can a SimpliSafe sensor be from the base station?

The base station can reach sensors up to 400 feet away. However, all keypads need to be within 100 feet of the station to work properly.

All components are equipped with adhesive strips for installation, as well as screws in case you want them to be more secure. You can have up to 41 sensors synchronized to your Original SimpliSafe system, and in ideal conditions they can send signals up to 400 feet away from the Base Station.
Do casement windows need alarm sensors?
If you have windows that open by crank, such as casement windows, it really isn’t necessary to place a contact sensor on this type of window because it is virtually impossible to open without breaking the glass. If you have this type of window, we recommend installing a glass break sensor.

How do I extend my SimpliSafe sensor range?
You can boost signal by extending its antenna, which is very inexpensive and relatively easy to do. This MAY be enough to get your base station and sensor talking too each other again. Happily, it is straightforward to boost sensor signal output significantly by extending its antenna.

Why does my SimpliSafe motion sensor keep going off?
Direct sunlight hitting the sensor can trigger a false alarm. Heating vents located in the room. If they are located within the sensor’s field of vision, they may cause false alarms. Pets that are able to get too close to the sensor.
Where should I put my ring motion sensor?

Where should water sensors be placed?
It’s a good idea to place water sensors in areas where water damage inside the home can occur, often without warning. Those areas include: washing machines, hot water heaters (they may fail), dishwashers (they may leak), supply lines to automatic ice makers (they may be damaged) and toilets (they may overflow).
Do SimpliSafe glass break sensors work in home mode?
Home Mode arms all your sensors with the exception of Motion Sensors. Yup, that’s right! Your Entry Sensors, Panic Buttons, Glassbreak Sensors, and environmental sensors, like Smoke Detectors and Water Sensors, are all armed. This lets you walk around your house and be protected, without worrying about false alarms.
Can SimpliSafe sensors be painted?
As long as sensor lenses are not painted over it’s perfectly feasible for these devices to be matched to their environments using the proper paints and preparations. Bear in mind that painting a device may void its warranty, so check with manufacturers before proceeding.
