Some anglers like to have the side imaging transducer mounted on the bottom of the trolling motor, especially if they fish a lot of docks. You can see the dock posts, brush around the dock and oftentimes spot bass holding under the dock. If it’s mounted on the transom, you won’t see what’s there until you get past it.
Should I mount transducer on trolling motor?
Often, it is desirable to have the transducer mounted on the trolling motor, but this can be a difficult task. It is important that the transducer and the routing of the cable does not interfere with the trolling motor’s operation. You must route the cable so that it does not get pulled, cut, or crushed.
Does Down imaging work on trolling motor?
Down Imaging works better for trolling motor but is not meant to be used on trolling motor . SI works at 2 to 4 mph with stationary transducer. They do not work at slow speeds with moving transducer at all.
Can you mount a TotalScan transducer on a trolling motor?
It will work even if you have the built in sonar in your Minn Kota or Motorguide trolling motors that have the transducer mounted in the front head of the trolling motor. This mount will work with the LSS-2 Transducer, TotalScan Transducer, 3-N-1 Active Imaging Transducer, & 2-N-1 Active Imaging Transducer.
Where do you mount a side scan transducer?
Clockwise propellers create more turbulence on the port side. On outboard or inboard/outboard boats, it is best to locate the transducer at least 15″ to the side of the propeller(s). The best way to locate turbulence-free water is to view the transom while the boat is moving.
Which way does trolling motor transducer go?
The transducer should be mounted parallel to the water line. The transducer should be mounted as close to the center of the boat as possible. If your propeller moves clockwise when the boat moves, the transducer should be mounted on the starboard side.
Can you see fish on down imaging?
Humminbird Down Imaging uses a razor-thin, high-frequency beam to create picture-like images of structure, vegetation and fish. Down Imaging returns are oriented identically to traditional, down-looking sonar returns—with the most-recent information appearing on the right side of the screen.
Can I use the side imaging transducer with my down imaging unit?
If you own one of our High Definition Side Imaging products you can use a Down Imaging transducer with it to improve your Down Imaging readings. High definition side imaging products are only available in our HELIX 8, HELIX 9, HELIX 10, HELIX 12, HELIX 15 or 800 / 900 / 1100 Series of products.
Can you use two transducers at once?
While it is not recommended that more than one transducer be run simultaneously, there can be multiple transducers installed on a boat. If two transducers are transmitting at or close to the same frequency and the signals cross, interference may appear on the display of your Garmin Marine Chartplotter.
Can I cut the skeg off my trolling motor?
no they dont. cutting off the skeg is the only option. ive looked at all the makers and none can do it. The skeg in the front and the giant size of the ducer make it a no go.
Can sonar transducers be mounted side by side?
You can mount SI/DI and high speed transducers side by side on the same side of the boat without any problems. When they both transducers use the same frequency is when you may experience interference.
How close can transducers be mounted?
Make sure there is nothing in front, behind, or to the side of the transducer that is closer than 12″. Do not mount the transducer where it could be damaged from trailering, launching, or storage.
Can I mount my transducer backwards?
The transducers are calibrated and made to mount on the transom with a left and right but when mounting them on the bow of the boat left and right are reversed. If you mount the transducer as shown in Brian’s photo above, it should be oriented correctly.
Does the Minn Kota Terrova have a built in transducer?
For the first time, anglers will have the option to select a Minn Kota Ulterra™, Terrova®, Ultrex™ or Fortrex® trolling motor with Built-In MEGA Down Imaging sonar. The Humminbird MEGA Down Imaging transducer will now be integrated into the trolling motor to provide a clean set up at the bow for anglers.
What is better down imaging or Side Imaging?
Side imaging is going to be more useful in shallower water or when you are scanning for shallow diving fish, whereas down imaging sonar is going to serve the deeper fisherman who are fishing vertically better.
How shallow will Side Imaging work?
Yes. In as little as two feet of water the Side Imaging units will show great detail of objects 50-75 feet away from the boat.
Do you have to be moving for Side Imaging to work?
Yes. Side Imaging Sonar works much like a MRI. The beams are laser thin and as they move past an object they take 100’s of thin slices of the object and compile them into a high-detailed image of the object.
Does Humminbird SI also have di?
The DI units have 2D, DI, but do not have SI.
Does Humminbird mega DI have Side Imaging?
NEW to HELIX 7- MEGA Down Imaging: Get unprecedented underwater clarity with coverage down to 125 feet below your boat.

Can two Humminbird helix and transducer be the same?
Yes via Ethernet. I see you have a 360 and two displays now. If you have all three connected via Ethernet, you can do it now. Just turn Sonar OFF with one of the units—same as disconnecting the transducer.
Where should I mount my transducer?
The location should be as close to the center of the boat as possible, but on the side of the downward swing the propeller. On the majority of boats, this will be on the starboard (right) side.
