When you get a smart meter installed, you’ll also normally get a small portable device with a screen on it. This is called an ‘in-home display’. You might be able to take a reading from the in-home display. Select the ‘meter reading’ option from the menu on the screen.
Can I access my smart meter remotely?
First generation smart meters can only be remotely read by the energy supplier who installed them.Second generation smart meters (SMETS 2 meters) will combat this issue, and give you the freedom to switch to the supplier of your choice, whilst allowing them to read your smart meter digitally and remotely for you.

- press either of the buttons on your meter.
- wait until you see ’01’ with numbers followed by ‘M3’

Why am I being asked for a meter reading when I have a smart meter?
While we’re waiting for your meter to connect, you may receive an email asking for a meter reading.If you receive this email, it just means we’re still trying to connect to your new smart meter. If you receive it more 14 days after we installed your meter, just get in touch and we’ll investigate.

Why you shouldn’t get a smart meter?
