Every Echo Dot has either two or four buttons, depending on the generation. These buttons give you access to certain Echo Dot functions without using voice controls, allow you to issue a command without first saying the wake word, and allow you to stop the Echo Dot from listening to you.
Echo Buttons can do three things: light up, change colors, and tell an Echo device when the button is pushed. This basic functionality might not seem like much, but the capabilities of an Echo Button are only limited by the games, or skills, you use them with.
You simply state the wake word Alexa and she’ll start listening. The top of the Dots feature four physical buttons for control: volume down, volume up, an Alexa action button and mute. All four come in handy. The coolest part of the design, in our opinion, is the LED ring at the bottom of the Echo Dot.
On top of the device, you’ll find three buttons and one slider. The mute, volume down and volume up sit center, while the right side has a slider to cover the front-facing camera. There are also four far-field microphones on the top.
Amazon Echo Show (all three versions): Echo Show devices can be reset in their settings menus, but the simplest way to reset them is by holding down both the Mute and Volume Down buttons for about 15 seconds, until the screen displays the Amazon logo.

Echo Buttons have actually been discontinued so you’ll have to do some online digging to grab hold of some.

It was not a joke, but it really wasn’t a revolution in shopping. The Dash Button spoke to Amazon’s customer experience. Then, the Button was discontinued in 2019. The end of this button also speak to Amazon’s expectations for its customers moving forward.
The Android floating action button displays on the bottom right of the screen, and can be tapped to fire a specific action. The material design guidelines include the concept of promoted actions, that can be triggered with the floating action button.
Does Alexa need to be plugged in?
Yes. This is true for the vast majority of Amazon’s Echo devices, including: Echo Show, Echo Plug, Echo Studio, and Echo Flex. Echo Dot needs to be plugged into the wall at all times. Without power, you won’t be able to summon Alexa through voice commands.
