Is the movie Parasyte based on the anime?

Why did Migi go to sleep?
He tells Shinichi in one of their shared dreams that he’s going to ‘sleep’ which will probably last till the end of his (and Shinichi’s) life. That’s perhaps the reason why he was able to ‘wake up’ in a way and save Satomi, and then go back to sleep again, after doing his bit.
