What is the clip for on a fishing rod?
Using a line clip on the rod blank in front of your reel enables you to create the optimum angle for bite indication between the bobbin, hanger and buzzer. By changing the position of a line clip you can fine tune your bite indication to suit different fishing situations.
What is the line clip on a reel for?
Line clips – one of the most underrated features on a reel yet one of the key factors in being accurate. Gone are the days when they were just used to store a loose end of line when you tackled down; these days, a line clip is regarded as one of the essential tools to aid casting accuracy.
Do line clips do damage lines?
The problem with poor line clips is they can damage the line when the force of the lead comes into play, but there’s a clever hack you can do yourself to dramatically improve your clip’s performance.

What size hooks for carp?
Medium ones, around 20 lb, can go on sizes 6-10.
Smaller ones are less visible (10 and 8), while larger (6) provides better hold. Usually, smaller hooks get a bit more bites. Larger carp, around 30 lb, or even heavier, will go better on hook size 6-2. These hooks go well with larger boilies.
What pound test line should you use for carp?
Both spinning and spin-cast rods spooled with 8- to 10-pound-test line work well for all but our largest carp. Many anglers prefer spinning reels with rear drag controls for easier adjustment when fighting a large carp. Use hooks in sizes 4 to 8, with shanks long enough to hold the bait of your choice.
Is a medium heavy rod good for carp?
A more standard rod is a better choice for carp in North America, and I recommend medium to medium-heavy spinning rods of 6 ½ to 7 ½ feet in length. Moderate fast to fast actions are ideal. Most carp anglers elect for spinning reels, as most carp anglers are in Europe where this tackle choice is dominant.
What weight can a 3lb test curve rod cast?
As a rule, if you take your rod test curve number, and add a quarter of an ounce, you have the optimum casting weight. So, for a 3lb test curve rod, a lead of 3.25oz would be the best to get the maximum from the rod.
What is a feathery line?
Feather line – Feathering the line is a way of controlling the line leaving a fishing reel during a cast. The speed of line leaving the reel is controlled to prevent tangles, and to allow the end tackle to land correctly on the water.
How do you improve casting accuracy?
Practicing casting well beyond your target and using finger-spool control will improve your accuracy immensely. When fishing topwater poppers and walkers, the occasional pause and following retrieve often stacks line on the reel loose and in an inconsistent manner.
