I have a smart water meter and I store my home canned goods in the basement. Will the smart meter affect my canned food that are on shelves in glass jars? I am concerned that my food is being radiated. Has anyone addressed this problem yet?
Vigilantdave replied 2012/1013 at 4:43 pm
Is it really a “smart” water meter or just an AMR meter that transmits a radio signal to a drive by vehicle once/month? You may need to ask your city water department. A “smart” water meter broadcasts multiple times/day to a fixed network of radio receivers or cell towers mounted on poles. These transmissions are much more likely to be a problem than the once/month transmissions to drive by vehicles. It is possible that the “smart” meter transmissions could affect food if the food jars are very close to the transmitter. We have heard reports, for example, that when plants are watered with previously microwaved water, the plants die within 24 hours. Something in the structure of the water changes to where it can no longer properly transmit calcium across cell membranes. Smart meter radiation is in the microwave range. Bottom line is we don’t know but it might be prudent to take some precautions such as keeping food well away from transmitter, or even storing it in a metal container that can shield the food from such radiation.

Dear Mr. Sheldon,
It is an absolute outrage that the citizens of the State of Michigan appear to have lost total control over their very lives. Dictatorial decrees by unelected “authorities” are running rampant. Those who think there are no health ramifications to these intrusive, totally unnecessary “smart” meters, haven’t been paying attention.
Whether the meters are directly attached to one’s home, or 25 ft away at a neighbor’s wall, negative health effects (headaches, heart irregularities, ringing in ears) are being observed. Shortly after this device was installed at my healthy vegetarian neighbor’s home, she suffered a stroke and spent 8 weeks in an Ann Arbor hospital. Now she gets rehabilitation 3 times a week. I am having health problems from this close up meter as well. We don’t know if it is a “collector”, one of the high radiation models – citizens suffer from the mushroom syndrome (kept in dark and fed manure). Since people are overwhelmingly clueless about this new technology (sep. our city “protectors”, who give carte blanche to anything powerful profiteers desire) they don’t associate health problems that crept up suddenly with these hideous contraptions.
Utilities are entitled to measure energy usage once a month – period! And for that billing the existing meters were competent. Now they want to irradiate, monitor, and gouge us as much as possible.
I used to get radio and TV broadcasts clearly without cable, now it is saturated with static. Even car radio stations that came in previously are now static beyond audibility driving through meter saturated “smart” neighborhoods. Why are we putting up with such draconian invasions into our lives? Are people here that lackadaisical and pre-occupied with trivia to care about rapidly losing ground?
We need a pit bull law team that cares about these issues. They have a stake in it as well! Mike Papatonio (Ring of Fire radio network) is a dynamic passionate person, as is Gerry Spence.
If we do not stop them now, when? Here the problem is that all energy sources are in profit drive centralized hands, unlike Europe and Scandinavia, which has individual natural sources. Here even natural sources like wind energy are made detrimental by myopic greed, as whole pristine regions are destroyed by 450 foot mills on massive concrete beds.
Who can trust these reckless centralized power grabbers, who buy whole agencies meant to regulate and control them on our behalf? The truth is we have looked the other way for too long regarding too many vital issues. Most people consider themselves to be informed, but they don’t know that they don’t know. This phenomenon is thoroughly exploited by the power brokers. THEY know what we don’t know, i.e. what they can get away with.
What did other states, which did accomplish regional opt-outs, do to get there? Why is there no media (newspapers, TV, radio) to let people know what is at stake? I believe Tony at the TonyShow.com (Tony Trupiano) would interview Dr. Meltzer.
There has to be a fire built under “our” legislators to support the H.B. and S.B. for redress!

The City of Warren has treatened to shut off my water if I don’t let them replace my meter with a Smart Meter. I called a lawyer and he confirmed that they can do just that. What can I or anyone else do? I have an ICD implated in my chest and I am worried.
Vigilantdave replied 2012/07/27 at 5:27 pm
Joseph, The smart water meters are almost as bad as the smart electric meters and should be opposed for mostly the same reasons. I am quite familiar with Warren’s water meter program and spoke against it several times in their City Council meetings a year ago. But the city seems determined to brazen this out. Please know that the Michigan Public Service Commission has no jurisdiction over city water systems. My advice would be to file a lawsuit in Macomb County Circuit Court in which you seek an injunction forbidding the city from turning off your water. Perhaps there are other Warren residents who would join with you to share the legal expense. I believe there is an excellent chance the court would help you if you file the right paperwork!

Sounds like a wi-fi issue rather than a smart meter issue. But problem of being pounded 24/7 with electromagnetic radiation is much the same. Unfortunately whether or not to have wi-fi has to be a building wide decision. Electro sensitive people should probably seek out a building to live where landlord has committed to a policy of protecting his tenants from any unnecessary emf, including wi-fi and smart meters.

Reply by Vigilant Dave on 2012/07/17:
Sounds too me like you are focusing too much on the greed of the utilities. It is normal for corporations to pursue profit in any free enterprise system. What I don’t hear you talking about is the lust for power and control over the citizens being manifested by the politicians who enact enormous financial incentives to bribe the utilities into doing their bidding. The source of this evil is much higher up the food chain than the utility corporations! And the newspapers are not much covering all this because they do not want to incur the displeasure of the politicians. And because the utilities probably give them a lot of advertising dollars!

This is the most objective way can put it leaving out any VITRIOL.
It have been warned not to get too vitriolic by a certain Gentleman. He is probably quite right.
I think if I just give the facts as I see them is probably better, but I am not going to be Dumbed Down by Anybody, that’s for sure, as my Mum and Dad and Brother and I went through the London Blitz which was really terrifying. We lost our roof and windows blown out in the bombing blasts in Wimbledon three times.
Now it is plain to me, that here in Victoria The Minister for Power is obviously very scared of his bosses. I now include the Countries of these Nefarious Overseas Owned Victorian Power Companies which are the Chinese in one case, and in the other four cases it is Singapore.
It is quite simple………These Victorian C.E.O ‘ s are actually Slaves to these foreign powers or owners of these Overseas Owned Victorian Power Companies.
Of course the Rot started when the so-called Liberal Party here in Victoria some 20 years ago sold all or our State Electricity Assets, The State Electricity Commission, or S.E.C to the above named Foreign Companies. SO WE HAVE BEEN LITERALLY SOLD DOWN THE SEWER, THAT’S FOR SURE !

What should we do to get House Bills 5411 and 5439 going to protect us from smart meters?
Vigilantdave Replied on 2012/07/13 at 8:09 am:
The bills have been stuck in the House Energy Committee for over 3 months now and we are hearing reports that the committee chairman adamantly refuses to take up the bills. We must either find a way to change his mind on that or else one of the sponsors of the bills would have to propose, and the House majority leaders would have to support, what I believe is called a ‘discharge petition’. That would require a majority vote of the full House and would get the bills out of committee so that a vote of the full House could be taken on the bills themselves.
It is always a good idea when persuading anyone about anything to try to learn what objections they might have to your position. Republicans can often be persuaded by a property rights argument but their objections, if any, are likely to be that they don’t want to impede technological progress or to impose too many restrictions on private enterprise. With Democrats, arguments based on health and civil liberties might be effective, but their objections, if any, are likely to be that they are under the impression that ‘smart grid’ is a ‘green’ initiative that is going to reduce our energy footprint. There is almost no evidence that ‘smart meters’ will change anyone’s voluntary choices about energy consumption. The only thing ‘green’ about these meters is all the money that will be changing hands.
Bottom line: change the minds of the Committee members or change persuade the majority (Republican) leaders and minority (Democratic) leaders. You can learn the names, districts, email addresses and phone numbers by Googling on “Michigan House Energy Committee” and on “Michigan House leaders”. We suggest writing or phoning them in a courteous way, and explaining why this issue is important and should be a priority for them. An in person visit to their office in Lansing might be even more effective. Especially if the representative is from your district. The sponsors and numerous co-sponsors of these bills are all Republicans but there is no reason why Democrats shouldn’t get behind this as well. It is a civil liberties issue and ACLU chapters in Vermont and Hawaii have endorsed our position.

Hi. We have had a lot of power outages here in Ann Arbor over the last week. Clearly, they are not due to weather. Is there a way to find out what caused these? Is DTE required to list why, and is that list public, or can it be obtained under the FOIA? Thanks.
Vigilantdave Replied on 2012/07/12 at 5:02 pm:
You can’t FOIA a private company, but you could FOIA the Michigan Public Service Commission for any records they might have concerning the Ann Arbor outages. After all DTE is required to file regular reports to them to explain outages. There is a whole division of people at MPSC called the “Electric Reliability Division” whose sole concern is maintaining reliable electric service.

So long as you regularly pay for your electricity, they the power companies cannot legally force you to take a now proving to be Deadly Smart Meter against your Will and Better Judgement.
Do as so many of us have done here in Victoria Australia. Just follow the guides below…….
1. Lock up your Electric Meter Box as aforesaid.
2. Put up your Legal Anti-Trespass signs, one on your front fence or gate and the other on your Electric Meter box. Ours in Victoria Australia have a $167,000.00 fine for trespassers by order of the Constitution of Australia (1900 – 1901 and still currently legal ) You must have something just as effective.
3. Write a Registered Letter to your Electric Power Company servicing your town or area.
4. In these Registered Letter state to the C.E.O that you are refusing to allow a Microwave Smart Meter….(now proven by The World Health Organisation to be a Class 2B Carcinogen Causing Meter on your property at any time. Also add at the bottom of this letter as Thousands of us here in Victoria Australia have added, these words or similar. ” IF I FIND THAT A SMART METER HAS BEEN INSTALLED ON MY PROPERTY AGAINST MY WILL AND BETTER JUDGEMENT I WILL JOIN THE COMMON CLASS ACTION TO SUE.
I got some free legal advice regarding all of this, long before I sent off my Registered Letters to PowerCor Australia Ltd in Melbourne Victoria. So far after sending off these Registered letters this has kept the Wolves from my door. Before all this I had been threatened twice over the telephone by PowerCor…………
“ That if I did not allow a Smart Meter on my property they would cut off my Electric Power.” I just told them to put all of their threats they had just made to me over the telephone in writing and this scared them.
“ Please be my guest said I, Put all of your WICKED THREATS IN WRITING TO ME. Then my very powerful lawyer and I will drag you into Court kicking and screaming and SUE you for your home, and all of your money and your car/s and everything you hold dear and leave you with the shirt on your back as your only possession.” At this telephone challenge of mine their wicked and very rude tone of voice, took on one of Real Fear. These words were all put in writing and sent Registered Post to this C.E.O of PowerCor Australia Ltd. Since this action of mine I have had no more annoying phone calls or veiled threats in writing from PowerCor Australia Ltd. JUST STAND UP TO THESE STINKING LYING MAFIA CRIMINALS, THAT’S ALL YOU NEED TO DO. Please do not telephone them under any account. All communication must be in writing, preferably with your lawyers backing.
If you are unlucky enough to have had a Smart Meter installed on your property whilst out shopping or away for any other reason……do not give up, just contact your Lawyer and get his advice on how you should go about getting you Safe and Passive and Non Microwave Analog Meter Returned and reinstalled with all the Costs to be Legally born by your Electric Power Company. Remember……..You did not sign any contract for the Deadly Dangerous Smart Meter, therefore your Electric Power Company Must Legally remove the Smart Meter and reinstall the Analog Electric Meter they STOLE FROM YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE and at their cost entirely !

Submitted on 2012/06/13 by Joe Petard:
I am writing to alert you to an unauthorized and unacknowledged experiment being conducted on non-consenting human subjects in California. The experiment consists of setting up experimental environments as de facto laboratories consisting of 24/7 WiFi EMF radiation from non-thermal pulsed ELF RF radiation augmented by intermittent other WiFi EMF devices and appliances.
The non-consenting uninformed human subjects are to be exposed to these laboratory EMF environments for at least as much time as they spend in their homes each day. Some will have much greater exposure than others. The duration of the experiment is open-ended, indefinite and presumably will continue until something such as manifestations of mass morbidity or death associated with the experiment causes it to be concluded.
The sample population is divided into Biobanks of living human subjects demarcated by the territorial boundaries of the various privately owned legal monopoly utility companies operating in California.
The machinery of the experiment is being provided in the form of
WiFi smart meter” devices newly deployed to homes and schools etc. The dwellings will likely be the chief source of exposure of the human subjects once they are transformed into 24/7 laboratory experimental environments of pulsed ELF RF emissions with augmented EMF radiation form optional wifi devices such as telephones and computers, and eventually with two-way WiFi devices in all electrical appliances which will be in regular contact with the core WiFi utility meter device when the laboratory experimental environment is fully in place.
It can be expected that few will perceive any effects from the novel experimental EMF environment but some may experience a variety of negative symptoms which they may or may not associate as originating with the deployment of new utility meters.
The current FCC Regulations were written in 1992 at a time when it was believed that there were no harmful effects from non-thermal ELF RF radiation. However, during the subsequent twenty years, published scientific research has produced evidence that this radiation is harmful, with long term exposure; and that the harmful effects are cumulative. Because of this emerging evidence of harm, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine has adopted a strong position urging precaution in the matter of the WiFi smart meters and sent the CPUC commissioners a letter urging them to stop deployment of the devices and remove those already deployed to homes and schools, as they are dangerous. “Chronic exposure to wireless radio frequency radiation is a preventable environmental hazard that is sufficiently well documented to warrant immediate preventative public health action.”[*1]
The CPUC commissioners ignored the AAEM as it had ignored the expert Sage Report which indicated that the WiFi smart meter device/grid technology is likely to be harmful and should not be deployed without further independent testing to the devices are safe. The commissioners have acted with evident determination to facilitate a rapid deployment of the devices revealing an agenda that disregards concern for legitimate negative health effects that may reasonably be expected to result. The CPUC commissioners and the utility executives are united in implementing this experimental EMF environment utilizing private dwellings as laboratories for the EMF experimentation on the inhabitants.
There has been very little, minimal mass media coverage of the issue of ill health effects from the ELF RF radiation associated with the WiFi smart meter devices/grid and none exposing the fact that the captive utility customers of the private utility cartel will have their home environments transformed into alien man made 24/7 EMF experimental environments
such as life on this planet has never been exposed to before; and the results will be scientifically valuable in the fullness of time. What is known of the morbidity that may be expected is that it will be such as results from cumulative molecular level cell damage, breakage of DNA; damage to the Blood-Brain Barrier inducing increased permeability; reduced male fertility.
The human subjects are unaware, for the most part, of what they are
being subjected to. They are told that the new meter devices are safe. The
CPUC, created to regulate the private utility companies in California for the public interest and safety and to protect the captive utility customers from dangerous infrastructure machinery embraced a report produced by the California Council on Science and Technology [CCST], composed by sometime associates of the commissioners, which concluded that the devices are safe and the FCC Regulations adequate for evaluating the technology.
In the CCST Report universe, ELF RF radiation is safe and addressed thermal RF issues not relevant to the health issues raised by the new WiFi meter technology. A perplexing report that ought to have been met with rejection and scorn by the commissioners but was instead used as if it impeached evidence of harm. This facilitated the CPUC commissioners to approve the deployment of the dangerous devices to homes and schools; and they were deployed with undue haste from the standpoint of public health safety; but with timely diligence for the illicit implementation of the EMF experiment on uninformed, un-witting, non-consenting human subjects.
I have only addressed the matter of human subjects, but it will be an experiment on all living organisms within the boundaries of the man made EMF radiation environment.
I submit this to you with the request that you fairly evaluate this
matter and act to intervene on the part of the many non-consenting human subjects who will be at risk for serious morbidity although it occur gradually over an extended period, unless this illicit experiment is terminated promptly.
The Nuremberg ten Point Code was created to clarify was is ethically acceptable in using human subjects for experimentation; it was incorporated into California law according to Wikipedia. Now is a time to invoke it.

An Open Letter to the
General Government Committee
Oakland County Board of Commissioners
1200 North Telegraph Road
Pontiac, Michigan, USA, 48341-042
Regarding Smart Meters:
I am writing this letter because I am not able to attend any of the meetings or hearings regarding “Smart Meters”. Up front, I am against the forced installation of these meters. There are numerous arguments against these smart meters, regarding health and privacy concerns, and I am sure there is very little I can add that you have not heard by now.
We were not told about the installation of the smart meters. All the DTE Energy installer told us is that they are switching out the meters. If they would have told us that these meters would jack up our bill some forty percent (40%) with the same usage, I would have never accepted it. I realize why DTE was so sneaky.
Consumers in other states are going through the same thing we are here in Michigan. The Utilities Commission in California and Maine, just to give a couple examples, had ignored the consumer complaints or went by biased reports from the utility companies that the smart meters were safe and accurate. Now, lawyers are involved and it has gone to court in a class action suit. I hope our community is able to learn from others mistakes.
May 25, 2011 in the state of Maine, the state has ordered the power provider to offer an “Opt-Out” program. I hope Michigan and Oakland County is able to take this example in their decision.
June 7, 2012, Ojai, California is taking its first step to ban smart meters.
DTE Energy and other providers, are working on an “Opt Out” plan, and want to charge consumers a fee for having our meter read and/or replaced with an analog meter. I have a problem with that, 1) I never asked to have a smart meter installed. 2) During the winter months my bill always comes in as an “Estimate” and during the other months, the reader comes to read the meter every other if I am lucky. So why charge us for services that we not getting? This has been going on for thirty years since we have been in business.
If you had these smart meters installed, you would most likely see about forty percent (40%) price hike on your bill, with the same usage you have been using for years. DTE Energy clouds the reality of these meters; all it is is another way for them to charge us more money for the same usage. The only benefit is to DTE for collecting more money without doing anything else.
A few examples of my source.

Not all new technologies industries come up with need to be hastily implemented to the detriment of the public. For a start, highly touted new gadgets rarely, if ever, benefit the public at large. On the contrary, we often discover that the forcefully pushed changes turn out to be detrimental and costly to citizens, while only catering to the myopic greed of a few.
As even Crain’s Business News pointed out in a headline article on the front page this spring, “smart meters” cost consumers more, rather than saving them money. This fact is substantiated by callers to radio programs in Canada and elsewhere, who lament substantial rate increases and other problems.
City Councils, who are supposed to look out for the public interest are happy to pre-arrange easy questions for utility reps, like “what kind of compliance to “smart meter” exchange are you having?” The happy reply: “97%”, but no mention of the fact that most of this percentile has no clue about “smart meter” technology, or whether their own meter has been exchanged without their knowledge, or permission.
Books like: How Gadgets Betray Us, the Dark Side of New Technologies (Robert Vermosi) remind us that WE need to be informed and vigilant to retain the few rights we have left, as every lackadaisical acceptance incrementally endangers us. Besides the reported health effects that the harmful radio frequency pulses cause, i.e. ringing in the ears, sleeplessness, heart rhythm interference and strokes, we are now in an electronic grid surrounding us that interferes with car radios and portable home radios. Just as the TV signals that replaced reliable analogue broadcasts now give us hiccup transmissions with distorted audio and video, forcing TV viewers to now subscribe to cable, as the converter boxes fail to work.
Nuclear power was originally sold to the public as “energy too cheap to meter” … now metering is all that is focused on to the detriment of reliable current delivery. Indeed, many regions experience chronic brown and blackouts, and surges that damage our appliances and equipment. DTE’s transformers blow up, poles catch on fire and the many infrastructure defects receive repeated band-aide approaches. Of course DTE claims not to be responsible for these consumer suffered losses and “our’ regulatory agencies do not wish “to interfere in DTE’s business” … huh? Like all alphabet agencies drawing taxpayer provided salaries to protect public interest against corporate greed and negligence, the Michigan Public Service Commission stands by with rubber stamps to enable, rather than curb, excessive, monopolistic corporate demands.
DTE’s claim that their “smart meters” are no more dangerous than cell phones and microwaves is absurd as well. Firstly, we have a choice not to have cell phones and microwaves. Secondly who has a cell phone near by, or stands in front of a microwave 24/7/365 days a year? Thirdly, how do they know how much radiation everyone is exposed to, as there is no uniformity in the many meters of different corporations, manufacturers, nor how many meters (water, gas, electricity, hot water heating – already 4) people are exposed to. In some areas homes are closely placed providing even more exposure from neighbors.
Finally, fact less reassurances ring hollow considering what a disaster flirtation with costly, dangerous nuclear power has been, another technology consumers are forced to insure (Price Anderson Act) and endure; we all carry the fall-out from Chernobyl, Three Mile Island and Fukishima in our bones.
The public has no choice but to be its own advocate and demand community-wide opt outs, including removal of “smart meters” on demand, without cost to the subscribers. The grabbing of citizen’s property and and privacy rights is anti-democratic and a violation of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights and must cease immediately!

An analogue meter option, not just a provision to opt out of a smart meter, is needed. My smart meter was replaced when I was able to supply a note from my doctor indicating that it was making me ill. However, DTE still refused to reinstall an analogue meter (as my doctor had indicated). They installed a different electronic meter. Although much, much better, this meter is also problematic, and is causing me problems which are relieved when I am away from my home. An analogue meter provision is needed.

I am living in Morongo Valley California. Our county has not stopped installing this meter. 11 other counties put installations to a stop. I had thirty-seven treatments of radiation and not one burn on the treatment table. That was two years ago. They put a smart meter on the outside of my bedroom wall. After sometime I woke up with radiation burns on parts of my body. I found that research was the next step
There is a good video “Dark side of smart meters” (YouTube). This will explain just how dangerous this killing monster is. We are all going to be spied on. Every six to eight minutes radiation spurts into our homes. The children that are on a treatment table and come home to a house that is filled with radiation – what measure will read on their dosage that they have taken on? Kids are starting to get bloody noses and severe headaches. Birds, bees and frogs, bats and squirrels and rabbits are all dying or disappearing from the earth.
I have a friend in Australia who told me they too have smart meters installed and their houses are burning down. A gentleman who lives in Palm Springs just had his house burned down after he had a smart meter installed in his house.
One last warning – the ones who are wearing pace makers will not have long to live. So sorry to have to tell you this but it is true. Go to your doctor and let him know. See what he can do.
One more danger these meters are not hack secure. Collage students tried to hack and could not do it. This is a higher tech. The worldwide leaders will have a hand in it.
I just handed out six hundred and fifty flyers on the smart meter and how dangerous they are. God Bless and if you want to write firstname.lastname@example.org be my guest.

Few people know all of PG&E’s lies regarding this so-called smart meter program. When you find out one lie, there are ten more and when you find 3 lies, PG&E has delivered 30 more.PG&E workers are not as vocal as some other people about their comments about PG$E Corporate Management, but quietly after gaining their confidence, they tell some of the worst stories we can imagine.PG&E Corporate Management the scum of the Earth (apologies to Scum for the association to PG&E Management).
“Consumers are more willing to be engaged.”
“Consumers are advocating for choice in market after market, from telecom to entertainment.”
“Already comfortable with the concept of time-differentiated service
thanks to time-dependent cell phone rates and airline fares, it follows that they just might want insight and visibility into the energy choices they are making, too.”
“Enabled by Smart Grid technology and dynamic pricing, consumers will have the opportunity to see what price they are paying for energy before they buy – a powerful motivator toward managing their energy costs by reducing electric use during peak periods.”
These excerpts from the Department of Energy “The Smart Grid: an introduction”.
Utility companies expect to recover their costs (those not paid for by taxpayers) through variable pricing schemes. This will maximize the revenue stream and create complex and easily manipulated rate structures. Not withstanding the regulatory requirements of the Public Services Commission, these rates are usually rubber stamped.
It is this ability to variably price energy and maximize profit that drives this initiative..
As Attorney General Schuette said in his communication to the Michigan Public Services Commission on April 16, 2012, “ it is inappropriate to employ behavioral economics directly or indirectly to influence a consumer decision”.

In a recent conversation with a DTE representative (JoeMcCormick) he agreed that the benefits to customers are all on a volutary basis, and will only be realized if the customer takes advantage of them. The majority of the benefits of smart technology accrue to the utility and are largely built on power outage respoonse. They do not acknowledge that power station upgrades and tree trimming programs, while less costly, are more beneficial to them.

Thank you for doing this important work. I have found it nearly impossible to get straight answers from my local Metro Detroit power co regarding the opt-out, safety studies, customer rights etc. The answers I get are too dumb to be dumb…I smell a (very lucrative) rat.

Below is a letter of Information sent to a Livonia City Council member prior to 3/19/12 committee meeting on smart meters.
At this meeting the Infrastructure Committee and other Council members present passed responsibility on to MPSC to do what they will with the citizens of this City.
If reading the following doesn’t put at least a seed of doubt in the minds of people who are in a position to protect us from this problem, I don’t know what will. My guess. ( as is the case with many board, council, or other public meetings) is that the decision has already been made. Government, utilities, and corporations are already in bed with each other. The meeting is a charade held to appease the ignorant masses and to give them the satisfaction of having had their say on an issue.
Dear Council Member,
It was a pleasure speaking with you, thanks for your time. I know you probably are a bit taken aback by dealing with so many people with so many issues that they are all passionate about, often times in an incoherent rambling way if any of the public hearings I have been to are an example. Hopefully my rambling will be a bit more coherent than most.
It is many people’s opinion that doing something that harms another’s health or well being is wrong, regardless of the promise of financial gain to a business’s or cost savings to a government . Unfortunately there are many in government and business who feel otherwise as I am sure you well know. That being said, there are many entities involved in this issue who have much to gain and much to lose based on the recommendations of the city council. The facts will be skewed, downplayed, or omitted by those who are to profit.
When it comes to smart meters, the issues are Privacy and Health. Health is my main concern as people will willingly give up their right to privacy but no one I know would willingly give up their right to their health or especially their children’s health.
When it comes to health, the questions that need to be asked are:
Is microwave radiation safe for people? At what level and for how long?
Is microwave radiation safe for children? At what level and for how long?
At what levels and at what exposure times is it safe for a baby, a toddler, a elementary school age child, a preteen, a teenager, an adult, an adult with MS, an adult with cancer, a senior with Parkinson’s disease., etc…
Ask what has been PROVEN BY SCIENCE to be a safe level of long term non-ionizing microwave radiation FOR CHILDREN. The answer that microwave radiation has “NOT BEEN PROVEN” to be harmful is not an affirmation of it being safe. That is just an acknowledgment that there are not enough people knowingly affected yet to admit that it is harmful.
The power company will most likely bring out the visual aid presented on their FAQ site under safety that shows the level of radiation emitted by a smart meter, a microwave oven, and a cellphone. All of which give off microwave radiation. Showing that other harmful devices give off more compared to the smart meter does not make it any less harmful. In fact it is the same as saying that If you smoke big cigars several times a day you might as well start smoking small cigars too. And not just some small cigars, but chain smoking small cigars day and night as I will point out in the next paragraph.
Another problem with that “smart meter, microwave oven, cell phone” example is length of exposure and how often these devices are used. I was told by the power company that the meter only sends a signal a few times a day and that it wasn’t any worse than a cell phone call. Several months later, after my family and I started having undiagnosable health related issues. I bought a Microwave radiation meter was I able to see that the signals were being sent off every 2-3 minutes at levels that are at or above cell phone levels of radiation. That means that my daughter whose room was adjacent to the meter was getting dosed with cellular microwave radiation at least 210 times a night while sleeping for many months until I moved her and my other daughter to the side of the house away from the meter where the readings are lower but still present., at which time her symptoms subsided and became manageable.
The other FAQ safety question refers to the FCC guidelines for safety.
FCC guidelines for microwave radiation exposures is based on the flawed theory that microwave radiation only effects health if it heats the body tissue. There are studies stating that the damaging effects are caused at levels below those that heat the tissue.
“http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GD_BKTWyTY” ( very informative interview with Dr George Carlo)
I have spent the better part of two years researching the wireless radiation issue and can tell you that these devices are most likely effecting people whether they realize it or not, whether they have outward symptoms or not. Many people are having symptoms but may never realize that they may be caused by the wireless devices in their lives. Devices they own can be turned off, not used as often, or not used at all, but a smart meter will be there and running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week sending microwave radiation into the house and into the yard at even higher levels than in the house. Who would send their child outside to play where there is microwave radiation being emitted at levels tens of thousands of times higher than mankind has ever been exposed to in the history of the world?
Here are a couple more videos for you to watch. There are some good explanatory information under the “show more” tabs.
Radiation emitted from smart meter ( it is as high or higher than the cell phones I have tested despite what the DTE faq graph shows)
Radiation from smart meter in childs room
Why wireless microwave radiation is dangerous for children
Doctor explains why wireless microwave radiation effects health
There are many other videos and much more information out there raising the red flag about microwave radiation safety. I appreciate your taking he time to review these issues as you are in the position to decide whether a whole new generation of Livonian children may have an increased chance of developing diseases they would have not contracted had they not been exposed to round the clock microwave radiation. While the jury is still out on whether this will be the case, it is very apparent that many doctors, scientists, and journalists that have major concerns about this. Hopefully you will be able to put this information to use for your own family too.

This news that PG&E is allowing customers to get rid of the radio meters is the best thing that we could have ever hoped for. Even though PG&E fooled the ratepayers into thinking that by replacing the analog meters was upgrading the power grid, and charged us $2.2 billion to boot, I don’t ever expect to get any rebates from them for their completely failed marketing scam. So many people made tons of money off of this sham, and if they have to rip it all out, so be it. We will have to just take it as a burn . There will be so many holes in the mesh network, PG&E would be better off recycling those meters with the Silver Springs mesh network back to China where they came from and possibly recoup some money for scrap . Any money for selling junk radio meters will be pure profit to the owners of PG&E, we won’t see one dime of it, but who cares?

Hard facts for the misinformed and for the PG&E shills commenting on this site:*) Connected an oscilloscope to my house electrical system: A and B phases with neutral*) Conducted time-series analysis both with and without the GE Smart Meter installed*) Lo and Behold: Smart Meter generates >400% increase in noise on the electrical lines when installed (resulting in >93% of total noise) AND produces phantom pulses on one of the electrical phases.*) We also discovered that Smart Meters, when installed on houses with older wiring (like mine), which were built pre-70s with 2-wire electrical installations (that is, missing the third wire a dedicated ground wire), generate significant increases in electromagnetic field radiation. This is due to the dated 2-wire shielding standard and lack of a dedicated ground wire a common installation found in older dwellings. Conclusion: The utility companies are negligent here because they failed to inform and seek home-owners’ confirmation for electrical wiring and grounding compliance *before* installing their meters, thus subjecting customers particularly those living in older dwellings to increased EMF radiation and electrical noise that has been found to cause headaches, nausea, tinnitus, fatigue, irregular heartbeats, and host of other health-related concerns. For the wrap-up, just put a couple of well-educated electrical engineers together with a few MDs specializing in EMF and noise effects on the body (I suggest focusing on the 16KHz harmonic, as this was a noise harmonic induced in my electrical lines), and you’ll come up with the basis for a very compelling class-action lawsuit.

I’m going through difficulties now because I found a bank of 14 SmartMeters near a workspace with a loft I was going to occupy, after I had put money down. I’m unhappy with myself for not having been lucid enough to find the meters earlier. I must have been hypnotized in a microwave haze. Because I refuse to commit myself to absolute misery, I’m backing out of the month-to-month arrangement and losing some money. What’s worse for me though is that I gave notice to move out of my present situation (a house with one Smart Meter’s subtle effect on me) and have to leave, and still don’t where to. The bank of Smart Meters, while I won’t let them destroy me, (I feel like I might have aged at least 5 years in 6 months if I tried to stay) has in effect disrupted my life. You just can’t move into a space that looks good for the price anymore, you have to make sure it’s not a microwave oven in disguise. One night I stayed in the space to test it, and the next day experienced a peculiar heavy headed tired feeling, as well as forgetfulness and difficulty concentrating. I had attributed that to having worked everyday for five weeks, involving some traveling and hard work, and thought I was further burned out from the disrupted night’s sleep in an unfamiliar place I hadn’t made my own yet. It’s now obvious to me I suffered badly from just one night’s exposure to the radiation. I cant’ even use the workshop space for more than a half hour without feeling like my brains are getting zapped, and experience a numb emotional downer sensation in my head that can linger for hours, or even the rest of the day. This is a similar sensation I felt when working for a busing company, coming and going from a yard that had two cell phone microwave towers at it’s edge. I love California, but if there are going to be SmartMeters everywhere I’m either out of here, or PG@E will hear me, as they do now (better up the amperage on me guys) as someone who will actively oppose and expose their assault on the sane, clear, healthy, uplifting life anyone deserves. The problem is, the minority of extremely wealthy people who make the biggest profits simply don’t care if we suffer, as we’ve seen expressed and applauded in recent political debates. They aren’t ever satisfied, so why should we be so with our simple lives? Some surely like to see people struggle in pain. Smart Meters, like Mass Media, TV alcohol, drugs, etc., certainly are, on some spiritual level, insidious tools of negative powers used to confound and weaken people, rendering them powerless, and reducing them to the darkness of confusion, fear and anguish. If and when martial law comes, the Smart Meters could no doubt be used to manipulate and create further confusion and distress. It’s already happening as we read the sad stories here. They know it’s happening and apparently don’t care. This may reek of conspiracy theorizing, so be it. But I’m not saying this kind of diabolical activity was consciously planned. Most people involved at PG&E might actually think they serve some good environmental purpose beyond company profits their salaries. The point is that it is a negative trend and some power is persisting in this trend and ignoring the evidence of human suffering caused by the implementation. They want us to accept it like climate change and global warming, as more and more people drive bigger and bigger vehicles with Keep Tahoe blue bumper stickers. It’s a Smart Meter and it’s good for the environment. Oh, maybe one of my nutritional supplements will take care of that annoying pressure in my head…

I am opposed to this global corporate deployment of radio meters for many reasons, not what some science fiction writers say about privacy, but because of all the constant lying about how these radio meters are somehow supposed to upgrade our power grids in this country. The radio meters have nothing at all to do with upgrading our archaic power grids in the U.S, they have not even yet started upgrading the power grids in 98 % of the U.S. That power grid upgrading will cost $300 billion and take 10 years to complete, and that is over and above the cost of the radio meter project which has already started. I don’t have a new meter, I beefed up security and refused the installation, but I have a strong feeling that PG&E and all the other global corporations will continue to ramrod these meters on people who don’t have the means to stave them off. I think this radio meter project is by far the biggest global corporate rip off in the history of this planet, besides the military industrial complex and creating wars.

Ontario, Canada where we live seems to have been the model for technocratic smart meter roll-out mania in North America. From two uitilites, at two locations, we requested and obtained replacement non-meshed but still once-a-day wirelessly transmitting meters. (In both cases the wireless data collection has not been utilized for billing purposes, although transmission occurs. Visual reading and estimates are still used.) I myself had RF hearing provoked, actually able to hear the 1/4-hourly firings off. The replacement meter has eliminated that rise and fall of tinnitus. But a different tinnitus has returned, suspiciously provoked when in locations in the house in closest proximity to the outdoor-mounted meter. Whatever unintended frequencies are coming off these meters in the course of normal operation, the dirty electricity , is suspected of being at the root of the continuing symptoms. This Frey effect hearing (equally provoked by various other elements of wireless mania) must not be taken as industry-connected research purports, mere non-adverse if acknowledged bioeffect. It must be regarded as much as pain or heat would be elsewhere in the body, as a warning of possible grave harm at persistent exposure. We get a kind of sonic warning in the brain instead. In one location in Ontario, a severe sufferer proactively sent a registered letter to the utility to warn off installation of any such wireless meter. Thus far there has been compliance, despite deployment in the area. Smart meter sufferers in Ontario are regularly heard from, various symptoms reported, but concerted joint action is more difficult here. The political & general culture in Ontario differs greatly from California (and British Columbia where the federation of municipalities has requested a moratorium, after strong citizen action to fend off the imminent mass meter installation; & Quebec, where a similar movement is afoot to prevent the imminent programme there; Ontario sadly is faced with eventual mass undoing of existing installations in the millions.) Californians involved are to be commended for strongly advancing this aspect of confronting and rolling back the mass assault from human abuse of the EM spectrum.

What these utility companies are being allowed to do, and the failure of the PUC to step up to the plate when they have thousands of health complaints identical to this poor man’s complaints, is CRIMINAL, literally Criminal. Allowing people to be irreparably damaged, even in the face of physician’s letters so stating is unbelievable. If someone had written a horror story with these facts I would have never believed it as plausible. I know at least 10 people personally including myself that are being physically (no exageration) TORTURED by this smart meter emissions. It is the same as someone with a peanut allergy was told, oh don’t worry, peanuts are safe. If utility companies were emitting peanut dust all over the neighbor hood and people with peanut allergies were getting violently ill in the thousands of people, would we just stand by and ignore it and allow the utility companies to continue to spew out toxic (to people with allergies) peanut dust so that these poor people could not find a safe place to breath and rest in the entire state or country?Where is the outrage from the general public. Is everyone asleep? This is not the country I grew up in. Our government is spending TRILLIONS in fighting terror based on less than three thousand people being killed yet sitting back and watching thousands more people being tortured to death by an ill conceived wireless smart grid. The PUC is fully aware of the science that is already published on dangers of radiation illness, dangers of non ionizing radiation and fully aware of the severe damage suffered by a huge number of our citizens – yet fails to order a health study or put the brakes on the roll out, and order the utilities to stop the carnage of formerlly healthy people as well as the already vulnerable. The new radio meters are not any kind of surveillance device, they are automated meter reading devices that transmit monthly total electrical use of the meter’s customer only, and even the utility companies know that. As for the meters knowing what you use the electricity for, there is no possible way that they could ever do that. It is the customer who must purchase certain appliances like refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers and electric clothes dryers equipped with special chips that can transmit electrical consumption only one way to an automation system receiver, and linked to the customers computer and display monitor to show usage data only. There are modules that the customer can purchase and install in place of standard recepticles that can turn 120 volt devices on or off only remotely, and modules for lighting controls that on-off and dimming functions such as preset scene lighting. This is nothing new at all, automation systems have been available for 60 years, the first ones were wired 24 volt systems. It is very important for you to know that all these many many different types of automation systems are completely paid for, installed, programmed and maintained by the customer, and none of this usage data is sent to the new radio meters and then repeated on the utility company radio networks. The utility company or anybody else will never see any of this usage data of these few large appliances with the chips, it is property of the customer who bought the system and appliances. The very cheap, simple new radio meters do not communicate with the power grid, are not the power grid, they send total usage data only over a separate radio network, and do not monitor or control anything except total electrical consumption down line from the meter. Some of the new meters have a remote disconnect switch inside the meter, which can turn off the power in the meter and prevent it from feeding the customers equipment. It think some people have been fooled by misleading advertising about the current deployment of these residential electric meters. They are confusing them with other more sophisticated and expensive meters like : time of use meters, reversible meters for solar power systems that backfeed to the power grid, demand response meters, E9 meters for electric vehicle charging and MV90 wired meters available for commercial and industrial customers.
The writer above refers to “automated meter reading” devices called AMR meters. What he says about AMR meters is true but these are NOT the kind of meters now being installed in Michigan by DTE, nor the kind that will be installed by Consumers Energy starting next summer. These utilities are installing AMI meters – which stands for “advanced metering infrastructure” and these meters, also known as ‘smart meters’ DO report all the information to the utilities. To understand how much the utility, or hackers, can see about household activities it is only necessary to view the “Customer Profiling” graph which may be found on this website by clicking the “Our Privacy” menu tab, then clicking on “Phase One:Detailed Usage Reporting”.

Ontario, Canada where we live seems to have been the model for technocratic smart meter roll-out mania in North America. From two utilities, at two locations, we requested and obtained replacement non-meshed but still once-a-day wirelessly transmitting meters. (In both cases the wireless data collection has not been utilized for billing purposes, although transmission occurs. Visual reading and estimates are still used.) A phone-wired meter was rejected by one, the other demanded a high cost dedicated phone line which we rejected as unfair and unnecessary to solve the utility’s problem of occasional derelict phone line maintenance. In Ontario at least one smaller utility is offering a no-extra-charge phone-line-wired option using existing phone lines via line splitters, obtained by the customer, similar to large customer TOU metering arrangements in operation for many years. The provincial legal requirement seems to be that there be a minimum of daily early a.m. reporting of the prior day’s usage. Of course, the whole scheme goes far beyond that. In one of the locations we deal with, a wilderness-edge area no longer retaining its relatively very low ambient electrosmog (eg est 10 mi nearest cell transmitters) because of the meshed network, 1W (est 2 gHz) transmitters provoked various symptoms in myself & spouse. The replacement we have not sufficiently monitored for continuing deleterious health effects, although the situation last checked was no longer intolerable with the replacement as it was before. At the other urban location, minimum 1/4-hourly transmission power levels were 5000x lower (at around 900 mHz), but also perturbing, not to mention the significantly increased ambient e-smog. I myself had RF hearing provoked, actually able to hear the 1/4-hourly firings off. The replacement meter has eliminated that rise and fall of tinnitus. But a different tinnitus has returned, suspiciously provoked when in locations in the house in closest proximity to the outdoor-mounted meter. Firstly, smart meters will allow the utility to tier their rates. Meaning: the more demand or use of electricity the higher the rate will be (an encouragement for users to cut back) and therefore you will pay the higher tier’s cost per kw/hour such as during the day when your A/C is working to cool you down, and this meter will pinpoint your usage by the hour and your rates will go up, not down. Secondly, meter readers are going to lose their jobs. A long term improvement to the power company’s bottom line, but you will not see your rates reduced even though the cost to the utility declines, it will only show up in the share holder/CEO/board member’s pockets and beach house purchases. We do not receive any benefits from this conversion at all that I can note herein. Thirdly, there is indeed higher emissions from these meters than most cell phones, and the transmission frequencies potential for harm is increased the higher the frequency used. Amount of harm is relative to the distance from the source and at these power levels, short term damages are impossible to show, however long term damage to cells and DNA are starting to pop up now that UHF signals have become more prevalent in society. I watched a technician get cooked from the inside standing in front of a waveguide many years ago while working on Hawk Missile radars and the damage was not reversible. These radars have similar frequencies, but far more powerful output, but with Smart Meters we are talking a comparatively low level output that may cause cellular damage that goes completely undetected for perhaps a decade or two with these systems. Good luck proving any correlation to these meters and their emissions causing tissue damages. Lastly, your day will be documented! Intrusive monitoring of your power usage will allow insight by others. Growing pot indoors using high powered lighting is not the issue as that will always result in higher than expected billings and noticed by anyone scanning records for abnormally high usage for the type of customer. What is of concern is that now, without your consent, you can be monitored in many ways not currently in place. I will leave that to the reader’s imagination. Not a good thing in any case, and usage data can certainly be statistically analyzed and used later for purposes that can only be surmised as unpleasant, at best. I have yet to find any compelling reason for these new metering systems that would provide customer benefit. You will not see a reduction in your bill when the meter readers are fired. Your bill will be higher due to the new tiered rates the tiultiy will be allowed to charge based on mostly false premises of lack of supply. You may be actually harmed by the increase in RF submitted to your bodies which will be impossible to prove in any court. Your privacy will be splayed out for anyone to see and perhaps be insecure in its storage or transmission. You will be less of a private person than you ever were. Welcome to Corporate America, Corporate Earth.

Don’t wait for local or state laws to protect you. Head straight to the top. Smart meters are illegal. Health Canada laws use Safety Code Six – (which, please note, is absolutely no different than the same Code used for all countries including the USA, as these are the international code standards of safety).International Health Law, as well as the version for Canada in Safety Code Six law, states that any wireless device with incompatible frequencies capable of exciting human tissue and causing the “heat effect” are by ALL Health laws, Canadian ones and those everywhere, “to be avoided”. Think about those implications legally!! Every single corporation connected with the manufacture and/or the installation of any wireless device is liable under the health laws of every democratic country. This means that smart meters are right now ILLEGAL, illegal according to every country’s own health safety laws which state the same thing as Canadian law everywhere else. Testimony has been given to our government by a man named Curtis Bennett to this effect. I gather that it has been pointed out to the House of Commons in Ottawa, Canada in a Standing Committee that Health Canada has “omitted” by what they are politely calling an “error of omission”. This means they have decided to disregard the law, and even since being notified officially Health Canada still has continued to overlook or ignore the link to causation from incompatible frequencies between biological beings and artificially generated EMFs. This is a key legal clause of their own laws and Health Canada has also as good as suspended the procedural use of the weight of evidence requirement in the study of incompatibility of frequencies between biological entities and wireless devices. Note that Health Canada only did so for this sole issue of wireless devices. This means this must be the same for the USA. And that means that while everyone is busy trying to demand that local ordinances upheld, the reality is that each local governmental body is answerable to each state and each state may or may not be individually answerable to the Feds. So at the Federal level, at least in Canada, the reality is that smart meters are in total violation of Federal health laws. Busted? There is a lawsuit in process in the US based on the same fact, that Health Canada is in violation of its own Federally mandated laws which are no different than those of the USA regarding prohibition of any risk of excitation and stimulation and resulting heat effect on human tissues from frequency conflict between these devices and the human body which has a frequency of about 7 to 7.5 hertz and which has absolutely no EMF shielding. Even a simple coaxial cable has shielding! We have NONE!

The PG&E riaods have a maximum of 1 watt of output power period. The reason they have a 4 dBi effective 2.5 watts, is because the RF energy is aimed out the front of the meter! Remember, the meters are mounted in metal boxes which greatly reduce the RF that comes through the walls. They guy with 5 meters on his wall shouldn’t be too concerned because they are in metal boxes on the outside of his wall. The vast majority of RF is going away from his house. (Put a mirror behind a 40 watt light bulb and you have reflected half its light effectively doubling its light in one direction and making it appear like 80 watts. Of course it is dark behind the mirror!)RF and light have the same properties, just different wave lengths. They are both types of electro-magnetic waves. Its like comparing bright day light to indoor light from a 40 watt bulb. Stand out side for 30 minutes and you might get a sun burn, but stand 10 feet from a 40 watt light bulb and you can’t even feel its heat, let alone get a sun burn. Everyone is excited about a measly 1 watt radio, yet FCC allows homes to be located a few hundred feet from a 50,000 watt FM station. And the guy who calculated joules is in error. The radio puts out 1 watt, which over 1 second is 1 watt-second period. If the radio transmitted for one hour, it would be 1 watt-hour. But the radio transmits a total of 45 seconds a day which is only 45 watt-seconds not 1866 watt-seconds. Divide 45 watt-seconds/3600 sec/hour = 0.0125 watt-hours of RF a day! We are talking minute amounts of RF!Your cell phone can be close to 1 watt, (old analog cell phones were up to 4 watts!) so if you talk for an hour a day, you get 1 watt-hour. PG&E meters are at least 1/80th as much RF energy as talking on a cell phone for 1 hour a day and the RF is spread out across the day, not concentrated in one hour and the meter is not pressed against your head. Again, RF and light have the same properties. Light is dimmer as you get further away, just like RF is lower power as you get further away. At 10 feet from a light bulb, its brightness is 1/100th. (Varies by the square of the distance.) Same with RF. At 10 feet, the RF energy is 1/100th compared to 1 foot.

I think a lot of posts are written by people who pretend to be against the meters, and go off on some tangent about how the new meters can somehow determine what devices one is using, spying in peoples bedrooms about sexual practices and preferences, medical problems, pharmaceutical drug addictions, what kind of plants that they grow indoors, how much money that they have, whether they have a plasma, LCD or cathode ray tube TV and on and on. I think some of them are just trying to make the sincere ones against the new meters look like we are all a bunch of kooks! Some of these people I believe are sincere in these false notions about the meters, but the ones who rant about privacy are the silliest of all. The new meters only transmit electrical usage, and don’t transmit or know what one is using it for. The funny thing is, all the posts on internet sites are done on a computer, and some of these people are members of Facebook! It is these federally/corporately monitored social network sites like Facebook that are the biggest breach of privacy. If one joins Facebook, they want your full real name (no anonymous screen names allowed), age, sex, occupation, a photo, your mobile phone number, where you went to school, what level of education one has, hobbies and interests, a list of references (friends) and political views. In other words, a tracking program.Facebook and the FBI are in bed together, they are really into the facial recognition thing. I’m sure that they would love an iris scan for your file too. You might as well call up the FBI and ask to be given an FBI number, just in case you might be thinking about being a criminal or radical speaking out against the corporately controlled government. I think that the wall street junkies are so desperate to get their hands on the $2.2 trillion in treasury bills that is the Social Security fund, that they will eventually loot it and try and do away with the Social Security system, you know, privatize it. Once they pull that off, there will be no more Social Security numbers, but all citizens will be given a Facebook account at birth, and will be closely monitored until death! And if one posts radical statements, even if one is not on Facebook, all posts are recorded and stay on the internet forever, if one posts under their real name, it’s there forever and could come back and haunt you someday. Any good hacker kiddie can get into any site and find out your computer address, it’s not just site administrators that can do this. The bottom line is, if you are paranoid about your privacy, don’t worry about the smart meters, but worry about joining Facebook, posting on the internet, buying things on credit cards or your smart phone , and even just using a mobile phone. There are many ways to ensure privacy and anonymity, the list is long .

Since each pulse is about 2 milliseconds long, that comes out to over 22,000 pulses a day, which can be going off at 2 pulses per esocnd. At that rate, twice per second—which is as “constant” as anything could reasonably be considered to be—the pulses would be going off for about 6 hours per day. My measurements suggest they go off all day, albeit intermittently. However, I have recorded single 60-sec periods that contained up to 150 pulses, on a single meter. It is only by the bogus and unscientific manipulation of the facts that utilities can claim the short emission periods that they do. A common example of just how bogus can be seen when one considers a strobe light, something which also has millisecond pulses. If you time-average the strong millisecond pulses of a strobe light, they “equal” a low-wattage light bulb continuously on; but no one with scientific integrity would make such a claim. Strobe lights have distinct neurological effects in many people—headaches, dizziness, and for some epileptic seizures. Thanks to the work by several citizen-scientists who take it upon themselves to buy equipment, measure “smart” meters, and post documentation online, we have some truly independent data to counterbalance the load of propaganda that the utilities would have us swallow. PLEASE JOIN THE WORK. You can buy your own RF meter. This one detects the individual pulses best: Gigahertz Solutions HF35C high frequency analyser (search for yourself, no one gives us money for recs). These are lower cost, but I find they miss many of the spikes, because the spikes are so high and so short: Cornet ED65 (might be ED83 now)or Cornet ED25G.

There are many things that cause power quality problems, and I don’t think any of them are from microwaves. The new smart meters do not transmit microwaves, but they do transmit radio frequency (RF). One of the biggest causes of harmonic distortion was the early electronic ballasts for fluorescent and HID lighting systems, but a few years ago they improved the circuitry and the problem has been solved with the ballasts. There are many other causes of what we call hum and noise on electrical lines. One such problem has to do with grounding. For many reasons, the NEC states that the ground and the neutral conductor must be bonded ONLY in the main panel, and all other sub panels must not have the neutral bonded with the grounding conductor. Also, in older buildings, they used to use knob and tube wiring, often sharing a neutral between 2 phases, and usually no ground. Those wires are separated by a few inches, and in modern systems the neutral and the hots are all in one cable. By having the wires in cable, that helps eliminate the high emf’s that exist in older buildings. But as far as audible and physical hum goes, I used to live on the Bolinas mesa when the RCA antenna farm was going at full bore. I could here it and feel it all the time.

Some new electric radio meters put out more than 1 watt of RF, and they do it more than six times a day. The mreets are connected to the power grid by PG&E owned overhead service drops and underground feeds. These utility service conductors feeding the customers are completely unprotected from overcurrent. The electrical potential is infinite. The new meters are just that, new, untested and unproven. The old electro -mechanical mreets are tried and true, and built to last for decades of unprotected revenue recording. The new mreets are a huge risk and liability for the power companies, and the shit has barely begun to hit the fan as far as fires and property damage claims. This global corporate zeal to eliminate meter readers and gouge customers more for electricity has been a failure so far, and no doubt will get much worse. And don’t worry about your neighbors funky wireless addictions, just keep them out of your house if you don’t want them. I have no wireless devices in my house, but I have friends who are totally into the new technology. They have kids who are loving all that garbage, and are being spoiled rotten in more ways than one. You can take control of your life, the most important thing is to refuse a new wireless meter, move out of crowded suburban and urban areas, grow your own organic produce and buy locally produced meat and dairy, learn to tread lightly, drive less, exercise more, and learn to live and love the good life.

Anyone who has asked how a microwave oven cooks meat has the answer to why EVERYONE should at very least unplug everything digital after very brief exposure, beginning with smart meters. Anyone who has seen how tough meat gets in a microwave should but does not make the connection. Yet some irrational commenters on this site insist that this fear is not only not justified but is all nonsense. Do THEY know how the laws of electricity work? For the sake of illustration, let’s keep the explanation really simple here: Microwave ovens cook meat by exciting the tissue, by stimulating the atoms & molecules in the slab of meat into that state of excitation in order to produce what is called the thermal heat effect
That is EXACTLY the effect which the Health Laws of Every Western Country have on the books concerning electromagnetic frequencies and in every country they are the same on this issue. Where the so called Health Agencies derail is by then providing junk science which states that we are deemed safe just as long as we are being cooked SLOWLY by EMFs (not to mention sterilizing the lifetime supply of ovarian eggs & the nerves of testicles of small children bathing all day in WiFi in schools). The LAW we have entrusted ourselves to this global human experiment is all fine, just so long as the frequencies in a domestic or work or school setting are still below a certain level measured in microwatts per square centimeter. The argument goes that they can ignore the causal relationship between those frequencies and our own because the LAW does not recognize human beings as electrical entities. Which is odd since medicine does. We are getting an epidemic of profit generating cancers from toxic sources such as digital technologies which create frequency conflicts. So Safety Codes are essentially asserting that there is no harm unless we cook more quickly and that the thermal heat effect occurs only above a certain cooking speed. Hello? Feel better now? BTW? They use meat thermometers to arrive at this junk science conclusion about us. In this EMF example, the only difference between a microwave oven and a high intensity gigahertz device is that WE are then that slab of MEAT and we are not dead yet. It is such a simple concept. That must be why so many don’t get it. There is a huge disconnect going on here. Government knows that EMFs OVERHEAT BODY TISSUE. We are cooking ourselves slowly. Slow is okay. No wonder EMFs are carcinogenic.
By means of the correct use of thermography, heat specialist CURTIS BENNETT, president of Thermografix has witnessed the heat effect first hand. He can clearly see the results of the ways in which cell phones cook human flesh. He has documented the heating of human tissues after extremely short exposure to man made EMFs. Why? All biological beings are unprotected and uninsulated dynamic electrical entities operating at 7.8 hertz frequency. When faced with higher frequencies, we begin to go into electrical failure. If exposed for long enough, even to low frequencies incompatible with our own, we will fail altogether. This heat effect from EMFs violates all Safety Code standards of human health IN ALL democratic countries. Health Safety Codes are internationally on the same page in all western countries. Every one of these codes continue to ignore the on-the-ground science which demonstrates that we electrical beings as humans are not only destroying ourselves fast but are taking down all other biological species with us and destroying our own future food supply by wiping out indispensably necessary electrical entities called pollinators .So far, there is only ONE single agency of which I am aware which is acting on what it recognizes, the growing global damage to the immune systems of bees, the rapid increase in the global numbers of bees succumbing to these diseases, and the dramatic disappearance of bees due to the EMF destruction of magnetite in their brains which is wiping out their navigational ability. One agency recognizes this as a major global threat and sees what is coming. The name of that agency? The CIA.

This controversy is patent nonsense generated by people with apparently no better way to spend their time. 15% of Californians have this so-called RF disease? Diagnosed by who, exactly? Is this medical fact or anecdotal accounts by those who can’t abide change of any sort? Not to worry though. The objective evidence is not on your side regarding this issue. For instance, all humans are constantly exposed to naturally occurring high and low frequency electromagnetic radiation generated by the interaction of the solar wind and the upper atmosphere. Another fact: Everyone, including those offering opinions here, no doubt use cell phones, laptop and desktop computers, watch entertainment on plasma and LED flat panel TVs, cook their food with microwave overs, amuse themselves with handheld electronic devices, and drive cars. Guess what? All of those devices (and many others) use switched mode power supplies, and many, such as with autos, have multiple switched mode supplies. Why is it that this so-called RF disease is only showing up now? The answer of course is that there is no epidemic of RF disease. The cases cited where RADAR technicians were sickened happened at power levels thousands of times greater than anything anybody not working on RADAR is ever likely to encounter. There is a hugely greater opportunity to develop cancer after years of sunbathing or using tanning booths than will ever be the case due to emissions from switched mode power supplies. Contrary to the opinion offered by engineers States and Dry, filtering a switched mode power supply is simple, inexpensive, and does not require high power components. Such filtering certainly would not cost anywhere close to $500! Their conclusions are immediately suspect given the apocalyptic nature of the disaster they predict. Some of the other evidence they offer as symptoms due to exposure to RF energy was common among people well before there was artificially generated radio frequency emissions. Gentlemen, stick to the facts and, if you’re not knowledgeable yourself, talk to someone who is and learn the details of what it is you’re going on about. Get a grip, folks, and find more productive ways to occupy your time.

The gnarly Wellington foreman eventually convinced my customer to accept the meter, lying to him and telling him that it was inevitable and everyone will have them.I was mad, because if I was around, I would have called their bluff and run them off.I went up there the other day to discuss the options. We are thinking of moving the meter main to the edge of his property and either undergrounding the service to the meter, or I can do it myself by moving the riser and reconnecting the overhead service. At least the meter will not be on the house anymore,

I do have an update on what is going on in the area that I live (Marin, CA).Out of the 22 full time meter readers in Marin, half of the staff has been released. The hiring hall readers were the first to go, earning $36 per hour with no benefits. The permanent meter readers earn $29 per hour with full benefits. Now, the meter readers that are left are stretched very thin. They came by and read my card on the street on Sunday. That is a first in the 31 years that I have lived at this address. The meter readers that are left are all working overtime to take up the slack from the corporate plan to eliminate their jobs, and are tired and stressed. Overtime is paid at time and one half, and not half of the new meters are working yet, so the existing readers are under great pressure for corporate. The whole plan was supposed to eliminate meter readers, but it is not panning out here in Marin. And we will soon find out if the customers of PG&E will be able to opt out of the automated revenue system, thereby trashing the plan to eliminate meter readers. There are a few chosen ones who work for PG&E in the Marin district that are in charge of getting the data collection receivers communicating with the mesh revenue network. They get a bonus every time that they make a connection with the revenue collection system for a customer. Some of them are not making much money in bonuses, and the investors are furious. The investors of this privately held utility (PG&E) were also duped. They thought and were promised a profit and savings of $80 million per year for eliminating the meter reading department, and that plan was paid for by the customers who have been charged $220 million per year to fund the program. It was supposed to be a super sweet deal for the investors, but they got screwed also. There is no free lunch, if someone tells you that it is free, it’s not !

I live on a mile long street with 36 houses, and at least 10 electric customers refused the new meters (myself included) when the sub-contractors came through last year. It’s as if our utility provider (PG&E) knew their meter program was a dud, they sent a couple of stupid letters saying that they needed access to install the required new meters. We all laughed and ignored them. They did manage to install 26 new meters up here but all of them are still read monthly by the skeleton crew of meter readers. There are no data collectors up here, and the mesh network only works down in the flat lands and is line of sight. All the hills and trees, and houses (there are no apartment or condo buildings here) that are spread out render their mesh network and data collecting network useless. I am not electro sensitive, but I noticed as soon as they started slapping in meters nearby, 2 share the same step down transformer as my house, even though the houses are over 200 feet away from mine, my power line carrier home automation system has malfunctioned. I have many lighting circuits controlled by my automation system that have worked perfectly for at least 10 years until the new meters were imported into the area. Now, lights come on at odd hours for no reason, rendering my automation system useless and wasting energy. I have since had to abandon my expensive system, which is a hassle, because I designed my house to use it. I am pissed off at PG&E because of this, they have cost me thousands of dollars because of their useless new meter program that doesn’t even work here. The meter program was a sham from day one, and I hope they yank each and every single one of those new revenue meters, and rehire all the meter readers that they laid off.

The new radio meters are not any kind of surveillance device, they are automated meter reading devices that transmit monthly total electrical use of the meter’s customer only, and even the utility companies know that. .As for the meters knowing what you use the electricity for, there is no possible way that they could ever do that.
We are not sure what state Vusal is writing from but he seems poorly informed as to what ‘smart meters’ actually are designed to do in Michigan and he has posted this comment on a Michigan website. Perhaps there is some utility in one of the states where the smart meters and smart appliances actually do operate as he outlines?

People in Sweden are fast to jump onto any bandwagon from nuclear energy to GMOs to cell phones or stupid hairdoes and other childish trends Maybe, someone has brought this heritage’ with him (For the record, I have lived in Sweden for almost ten years and have got a pretty good understanding of the naivety as well as the generally-collectivist approach of these people in their social utopia that’s wholly unnecessarily admired by most of the world.) The dosimetry’ given may be right for Vattenfall or Fortum back in Sweden. The privacy issues remain the same anyway, cost and resource-waste etc too. Cellphone usage etc indeed IS a point because that is similar. The distinguishing factor here would be CONTROL though, as I may decide for myself whether or not I want to use a cell phone. Opposing smart’ meters is not unreasonable for silently exposing people to the risks that do exist and even denying them a choice is not right. Also, the additional network infrastructure needed is a total waste and *produces* less than it costs. Failed economics, failed policies and not at all Green’.

Being an electrician installing meter main, load centers and combos, I have seen a lot of things that were done decades ago that would prevent access to an electrical meter. Many customers have meters that are 80 years old deep inside buildings that are not accessible to PG&E. These thousands of customers have been putting out their personal readings of the electrical meters at a location out of the building for decades. I have seen some meter main and load center installations that would make a Wellington monkey turn around and run fast. I’m not talking about doghouses locking the meter, I’m talking about meters that were installed in some locations where there is no access any more to service them due to subsidence of earth, blackberries, poison oak and retaining wall failures. Sure, the meter readers should have access to read the meters whenever possible, but as far as changing out a 40 year old meter with a cheap, simple radio transmitting meter that transmits for nothing at all in many areas, they are not going to bother with it. That is why we still have our analog meters in use.
